Amatsu sessions are often referred to as ‘balances’ and are suitable for all ages, anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult such as a parent or guardian at their session.
First Appointments will incorporate a detailed medical history and may take around 1 hour. Subsequent appointments last approximately 45 minutes.
During an Amatsu session I will assess your whole body beginning with your pelvis and sacroiliac joint. This is because any dysfunction here can have profound implications throughout the body as our muscles, ligaments, bones and organs have to adapt when our pelvis is misaligned causing many compensations. I will establish the most effective way to restore balance back to the whole body with minimum intervention.
During your Amatsu session, you remain fully clothed. I ask clients to wear loose comfortable clothing such as leggings or jogging bottoms with a t-shirt or jersey and socks. It may seem strange that I work on your body while you’re fully clothed but your clothes and how they sit on your body can give me clues to things that help me to work out what may be wrong.
What does Amatsu feel like?
Amatsu utilises different techniques including soft tissue pressure and mobilisation of limbs. Amatsu is a soft touch therapy and can be very gentle, sometimes the depth of pressure used will be stronger and deeper depending on the specific symptoms of your condition and general health. No two amatsu sessions will be the same as each session is tailored to each client’s needs on that day.
Clients say that after an amatsu session they either feel very relaxed and sometimes sleepy or feel invigorated and re-energised. Either feeling is perfectly normal as your body is adjusting to the structural changes made within the session. It can take 2 or 3 days before the full effects of the session are felt.
Amatsu is effective in helping a wide variety of problems which include:
Neck and Shoulder issues e.g. Frozen shoulder
Knee or Ankle pain
Foot problems such as Plantar Fasciitis
Elbow problems such as Golfers or Tennis elbow
Wrist problems such as Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)
Reduction of tension in the body
Release of tight knotted muscles
Improvement in joint pain and better movement
Can aid better sleep
Improved Proprioception (see below)
Amatsu restores balance to the body, encouraging and facilitating natural and optimal body movement by helping to correct the body’s dysfunctions.
Amatsu also helps to restore proprioception – our natural ‘sense’ which is an awareness of our body in relation to its surrounding. Our proprioception helps us to move naturally and easily (think of walking along a narrow corridor without bumping into the walls on either side) so injuries to joints or ligaments will result in diminished proprioceptive ability, meaning co-ordination can be affected and the injured limb or joint may feel ‘odd’.
Poor proprioception can contribute in further injury as a result of increased clumsiness, poor posture, lack of co-ordination, and even difficulty with performing basic everyday activities.
Regular Amatsu sessions can help in preventing ill health by keeping your body in balance and free from the everyday stresses of modern living. Amatsu treats the underlying cause of the problem and not just the symptoms. When the body is balanced healing can occur at an accelerated rate.
